ABCD-10 (SJS/TEN in-hospital mortality)

Predicts in-hospital mortality in Stevens-Johnson syndrome / toxic epidermal necrolysis, a US-cohort alternative to SCORTEN.

Evidence tier: Validated instrument.

Formula / logic

ABCD-10 = Age ≥50 (1) + Bicarbonate <20 mEq/L (1) + active Cancer (2) + Dialysis pre-admission (3) + ≥10% BSA detachment (1). Range 0-8. Approximate in-hospital mortality: 0 → 2.3%; 1 → 5.5%; 2 → 12.7%; 3 → 27.9%; 4 → ~50%; ≥5 → higher.

Interpretation

Derived and internally validated in an 18-center US SJS/TEN cohort. Calculated at admission.
